The main news at the present is that the conference at Bournemouth was a total success as far as Calne Branch is concerned.
The motion submitted by the branch to allow the unrestricted award of the Pingat Jasa Malaysia medal was carried unanimously with no opposition. But that is not all, spurred on by this success, the RBL Scotland who had their conference two weeks later used our motion to place a similar one before their delegates and that too was carried unanimously and unopposed. Coupled with the finding of the London Gazette entry of May 1968 which say’s that the Queen graciously permits any UK Citizen not in the service of the Crown to accept and wear any foreign or Commonwealth medal or award unrestricted, it is safe to say that wearing the PJM is acceptable.
We look forward to the campaigns department at HQ taking the Government and the Honours and Awards Committee to task over the contemptible way that this honour and the veterans to whom it has been awarded have been treated.
